Yup...another season is here!! In fact, with being only three and a half weeks in to November, it is well under way for the Americas' Cup circuit athletes what with 4 of 8 races already done.

For my part I have to admit that, until about two weeks ago, I was unsure what this season, or any future ones for that matter, was going to look like for me. I spent my off season focusing more on work, the potential of looking to transition into coaching for my future involvement in this sport, and not exactly training the way I needed to for a competitive season. I didn't not train full stop, I just didn't train sprinting or starts. Not a good idea now that I have decided to continue to compete and given the fact that my starts are my ‘achilles heel’ in this sport. However...'It Is What It Is' is my current mantra and I am currently now doing my best to make up for that lost training time for this season and looking to next season with a more focused gaze.

This season the ICC circuit, for it's European leg, is in Lillehammer, Norway and Sigulda, Latvia. Two amazing places I would most definitely like to see, however also two places that are exceedingly expensive to travel to. So....I will be staying in North America for my races this season with the ultimate intent to qualify for World Champs...which are again this season being held in Lake Placid, NY.

With a last minute licensing by my federation (It Is What It Is) I was unable to logistically plan to do the first of the AC races, which were in the second week of November in Park City, so my first races of this new season were last week here in Calgary.

For not having trained as mentioned(and thus having an embarassingly slow start as a result),I have to admit I'm not unhappy with my results. Two top ten finishes: 10th in the first race and 7th in the second. I’m happy to know that my driving abilities are able to assist with somewhat making up the shortfall of my start.

So…onwards tomorrow to Lake Placid for a week of training and the next two races in the AC circuit and onwards to focusing on improving my push start as much as I can between now and World champs. I've got some hard work in front of me. And I am looking forward to every second of it!
