Once again I have been rather lacking in my ability to keep my blog updated and as such an entire season has gone by with no updates. shame on me!!

Thus, in an attempt to at least give the gist of what happened I am posting a 'recap' of my season. As of this past weekend the competitive season for skeleton and bobsled came to a close with the final two Americas’ Cup races that were held in Lake Placid, and for myself it was a very busy (and expensive) season indeed as I did my utmost to best represent Jamaica in the sport of skeleton in two of the International race circuits of the FIBT.

I competed fully in the Americas’ Cup circuit (eight races distributed between the three different tracks in North America) as well as the full Intercontinental Cup circuit (eight races split evenly with four races on the North American tracks and four on tracks in Europe – this year was Cesana Italy, Igls Austria and Konigssee Germany).
Besides a hectic schedule my season was fraught with a number of difficulties starting off with the fact that at my first two races in park City Utah my sled was broken...seriously affecting how it drove. However at the next two races in calgary I had it repaired and I had two top 10 finishes.
An equipment change at the mid point in my season, though a good decision for next season’s sliding, was poorly timed and again affected how my sled drove and thus my results. However, in always looking to the silver lining, during this time I was continuing to improve my sprint and start times on the tracks and continuing to log ‘personal best’ times there.

The second half of the season found me in Europe for three and a half weeks where I competed in four races. With the exception of one, I had never been on the tracks that we raced on.... which makes for an exceedingly difficult learning curve and a huge disadvantage against any other athlete that is familiar with a given track. Combine that with the fact that I do not have a coach to assist or watch me (as I am unfunded /unsponsored and thus can’t afford a coach) it makes it pretty difficult to have the most successful of races or truly to be able to compete against the athletes/nations that have a full team of coaches with them. Regardless of this I chose to take it in stride and use my experience on those tracks as training to learn the tracks for next season, which of course is the Olympic season and the races then are the ones that will qualify me for an Olympic berth.
Now, my recap of my season so far may sound a bit bleek however such is actually not the case. I just clearly would have liked to have done better… as would any athlete if they did not attain gold at each and every race! The truth of the matter is that I did not do too badly this season and feel that I did a good job of representing Jamaica in my races.

The cap to the season was that I qualified to compete at the World Cup Championships! World Champs were held in Lake Placid New York, were covered by International media and hopefully I helped to let folks know that Jamaica has yet another winter athlete with contention for a berth in the 2010 games.

In looking to my results I am well pleased with my final rankings. All toll my results were:
3 top 10 finishes in the AC circuit, Qualification for World Cup Champs with a 25th place finish, 5th overall in the AC circuit, 23rd overall in the IC circuit, 53rd overall world ranking.

I finished off the season trying my hand at piloting bobsled with the potential of putting together a Jamaican women’s team for the future.

So in the end it was a successful season with Jamaica well in the international rankings of skeleton and myself with a spring in my step looking to next season and that berth in the 2010 Olympic games!
